Principle Dentist - Mark Hepworth
Manx dentist, Mark has been welcoming and treating patients at Abbey Dental since opening the practice in 2008. Mark strives for excellence in dentistry and has worked with some of the world’s dental experts. Mark also ensures Abbey Dental is kept up to date with new clinical advances. He advocates regular training for all staff and has himself furthered his experience in orthodontics, implantology and restorative dentistry.
Mark grew up in Douglas, qualifying as a Dentist at Liverpool University. He also studied Pharmacology to PhD level, specialising in pain control research.
Outside dentistry, Mark loves to spend time with his family and loves to tinker with his classic Triumph Spitfire car.
Associate Dentist - Tim Brown
Tim joined the team at Abbey Dental in August 2012 after a long search. Mark persuaded Tim to return to the Isle of Man, bringing with him his expertise in oral surgery.
Tim grew up in Laxey and left the Island to study Dentistry at Sheffield University in 2005. Graduating in 2010 with his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). He went on to work for 12 months providing general dentistry in a small town on the south coast of England. He then worked in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department in Southampton General Hospital gaining experience of managing head and neck diseases, A+E dental and facial trauma and oral surgery. He then went on to qualify as a member of the Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MJDF RCS (Eng)).
Tim is a keen sportsman and this year took part in the Parish Walk and 'Tough Man Challenge'. He regularly plays squash against Mark and is a dab hand at baking as well.
Hygienist - Paula Bell
Paula qualified as a hygienist at Edinburugh University in 2003.
Paula leads by example with her dazzling white smile. Her comprehensive approach to oral care means that patients really do see, feel and smell the improvement in their gum health. Abbey Dental patients all understand the benefits of regular hygiene visits ensuring that periodical disease and bad breath are a thing of the past.
Invisalign Dentist - Darren Stone
Dr Stone qualified from Liverpool University in 1997; His main area of expertise is Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Dentistry (MICD). He is a Platinum Elite Invisalign treatment provider as well as holding a position as a clinical speaker for Invisalign, teaching and mentoring other dentists and orthodontists in using this technology.
Darren has worked on the island for seven years and also has two dental practices in the UK.
With the reduction in orthodontic care available for patients on the island through the NHS, and ever increasing waiting lists:- Invisalign can provide an alternative to fixed appliances for all patients twelve years and above. Invisalign is especially suitable for adults who have felt it was 'too late' for them to have straight teeth.
Practice Manager - Tracie Hepworth
Tracie is a trained dental nurse as well as a qualified biology teacher with a PHd. Tracie helped establish Abbey Dental from the ground up. Beginning in 2007 with project managing the conversion of the residential bungalow at the entrance to Silverburn Estate into the modern award winning dental practice it is today. Married to dentist Mark and mother to 3 girls, Tracie is also found in the office of Abbey Dental, on reception or in the surgeries and is always happy to help with patient queries.
Practice Administrator - Vicki Mitchell
Hailing from Australia Vicki has called the IoM home since 2003. Vicki is a tour de force in the office and can be found balancing accounts, answering patient queries and welcoming patients in reception. Vicki loves to cook and often spoils everyone by bringing in baking for all to enjoy! Vicki loves travel and has recently started work on a new allotment.
Senior Dental Nurse - Jenny Shimmin
Jenny joined Abbey dental in 2010 and qualified as a dental nurse in 2012. She is an excellent nurse who is experienced in a full range of dental procedures including orthodontics, dental implants and sedation. Jenny has joined in the Port Erin Raft Race and loves to walk her King Charles Spaniel 'Nala'.
Dental Nurse - Kesha Sayle
Kesha has worked at Abbey Dental since 2012 and quickly became a valued member of the team. She started her formal dental nurse qualifications immediately, passing her final examinations with flying colours in 2014. Kesha's bubbly personality puts patients at ease.
Kesha is often to be found walking her dogs 'Marmite' and 'Branston' around Peel, and she is a regular participant in the Parish Walk and 'Relay for Life'.
Trainee Dental Nurse - Kesha Collister
Retraining from an administrative position, Abbey Dentals newest recruit Kesha, is quickly learning about all aspects of dental surgery and is working towards her qualifications as a dental nurse. Outside of the surgery Kesha enjoys horse riding, outdoor activities and dining with friends, rides horses and... In 2014 Kesha undertook the 'Tough Man Challenge' and participated in the Parish Walk completing the stage to Peel.
Operations Manager - Peter Hepworth
More than just 'the gardener' Peter keeps the buildings in 'tip top ' shape, maintaining meticulous filing systems and can also be found on reception making everyone feel welcome. Keeping it in the family, as Marks' dad, Peter, like Tracie has been involved in the setting up of Abbey Dental from its inception in 2007. In his spare time Peter enjoys a game of golf and is an experienced landscape artist, evidence of which is seen hanging in Abbey Dental.
